Aioli BBQ & Grill Smokehouse is a neat little neighborhood restaurant that serves Kalyan Nagar and its vicinity. It’s part ly open and occupies a patio that stretches out from the kitchen at the back. Bengaluru’s mostly pleasant weather allows diners to enjoy the outdoor ambience of the place. In the evenings, with the trees on the premises wrapped in fairy lights, it makes a pretty picture.


Nearly everything on the big, colorfully illustrated menu is cooked on coal or over wood fires. When I was here for dinner, we started with the Avocado Salad and the Pepper Salad. Both were crisp, well-dressed and the chunks of pepper were pleasingly charred in parts. You can top this salad with grilled chicken, if you wish.My companion had the Herb and Garlic Lamb Loin Chops, a hearty portion of juicy, well-marinated meat, served with a big heap of creamy mashed potato and a healthy mound of vegetables. My main course was Grilled Prawns, done tapas-style. They came immersed in olive oil, scattered with herbs.The prawns were flawless, but I would have preferred some crusty bread to mop up those delicious juices, instead of the buttery garlic bread that accompanied the dish.

I also had a taste of the Stuffed Zucchini and would recommend it to vegetarians. Aioli may specialize in barbecues and grills, which have an instant association with meat and seafood, but there is plenty of choice for vegetable lovers here and tofu gets the star treatment in some dishes. There are homemade ice creams for dessert and also Peach Melba, which is what I had. This retro dessert is nicely done, with syrup-soaked peaches, raspberry sauce and very good ice cream. You’ll notice that about all the dishes at Aioli; there’s an old-fashioned, no-nonsense hearty quality to the food here.


Making the satisfying meal experience even better is the service at Aioli. Chef owner Anoop Verma is always at hand to greet guests and cater to special requests. The waiters all seem to have a spring in their stride and ready smiles for customers.


We grill, you chill, goes the tagline.And it’s certainly a good place to relax in. Drink choices, though, are limited to Indian wine, though they do shake up some pleasing non-alcoholic drinks.
