Jassi De Parathe is a chain of restaurants specializing in Punjabi food. It has renovated and expanded its Prahladnagar outlet.

Keeping with the food it serves, Jassi De Parathe has themed its interiors on the dhabas of Punjab. Located in a commercial complex, Jassi de Parathe has dining areas on both sides of the landing of the stairway leading to it. The interiors have been partitioned with walls that have a little rough finish, wooden screens and shelves carrying traditional utensils. The walls are decorated with drawings of scenes from dhabas and Punjabi villages. There are string beds (charpois) and outdoors style furniture pieces, the windows have woven mats instead of curtains, and some of the lampshades also look like lanterns of a dhaba. You can even opt to sit cross-legged on cushions around a low table set on a stone platform.

This restaurant specializes in Punjabi food, and I decided to order Sarson da Saag and Makki Roti before the season is over – the classic combination was excellent. The shorbas are also good,and the Aloo Tikki Chaat is worth having. Samosa Chaat is also a popular choice.

Expectedly, the menu has many dishes using paneer in various gravies, Malai Kofta, potato dishes and mixed vegetables, but there are also more rustic dishes like Baigan Bartha, Rajma, Cholle, Desi Channa and Shimla Mirch. There is also a section dedicated to Bhune Masala – dishes made using ground masala pastes.

The paratha menu is divided into Aloo, Gobi,Paneer, Pyaz, Mooli, Lasan, Sabji, Mushroom,Kale Chane, Mutter, Rajma, Makai and Tamatar. Within each of these are various blends of stuffing. They also have cheese parathas. Most of them are very flavourful.

Dal, Kadhi and Rice dishes are among the other mains. For dessert, the hot or cold Kheer are pretty good. They also make their own pickles, which may be available off the counter.
