New Freezeland is a chain of cafés known for sandwiches and snacks. They have recently launched a new menu with some healthy options.
New Freeze Land, C G Road, Ahmedabad: Decor
The flagship restaurant of New Freezeland is located on a busy street near the GLS University, which is the reason for its youthful buzz. The restaurant has three different dining rooms, two downstairs and the third one flight up, and you can also opt for takeaways. The simple and casual cafe type furniture is neatly laid out, and the walls have visuals and screens that go with a place frequented by collegians and the young crowd. The black columns with words in a graphic contrast of white is an interesting interior element.
New Freeze Land, C G Road, Ahmedabad: Food
New Freezeland enjoys a reputation for consistency, and regulars swear by their house specials like the BFL (an acronym for Best of Freezeland) with fillings like onion, capsicum, chillies, cheese fillings and chutney, NFL special club and Rollji’s club named for the owner, with their signature mayobased dip. Their butter pav bhaji, quesadillas and pizzas (both thin crust and bhakri pizza) also enjoy a loyal following. Over the years, they have added focaccia, Panini and multigrain bread sandwiches to their repertoire.
The ciabatta tortas have various toppings served on elongated, broad, and flat sourdough bread rolls. The chilly corn tortas and Mexican tortas are Jain friendly, and the Amdavadi masala tortas can also be made without onion and garlic. I ordered the Bombay bhaji torta which had a pav bhaji like spread that was okayish. The Cuban longers are sandwiches served in long breads rather like minibaguettes with minty, chipotle or tandoori paneer fillings. I ordered the tandoori paneer longer – the bread was fibre rich and had a crispy crunch, but it overwhelmed to an extent the paneer which was soft, crumbly and curdy rather than firm. The paneer was more enjoyable in their wrap which had a thin flatbread. Hummus felafel wrap is another good option.
I washed my meal down with a hazelnut cold coffee which was pretty acceptable.
New Freeze Land, C G Road, Ahmedabad: Plus & Minus
New Freezeland has its own bakery, which ensures the breads used for the sandwiches are fresh and innovative. The service was a bit slow – I had to wait a while before my order was taken.
