The address is 805 and it does have the feel of a patio, hence the name. It’s in a nice part of Jayanagar, a neat little space, tastefully done up in shades of charcoal with monochrome tiles. Greenery spilling out of hanging planters lends a pleasing touch.

It was lunch time on a weekday and the restaurant quickly filled up, demonstrating that there’s a demand for vegetarian restaurants serving more than Indian food. Patio 805 is from Nirav Rajani and Diep Vu, who’ve been running Hanoi, the Vietnamese restaurant, for several years now. Here, it’s pan-Asian with Thai, Chinese and, of course, Vietnamese, given their expertise, and it’s heaven for vegetarians, who often have to scour through menus looking for something they can eat.
It was a searing hot day and we began with the Thai Green Papaya Salad. This was different from the more spicy, crisp Som Tam, and came in a dark, sweet-sour dressing. I found the sweetness a little too pronounced. We had the Vietnamese Rice Paper Rolls, another cold appetizer, and these had a pleasant crunch to them. The deep fried Thai Wontons filled with cottage cheese make for a hot, crisp starter. The Mapo Tofu came tossed in a spicy Szechuanstyle sauce.
For main course, we kept it simple, ordering Thai curry with jasmine rice. It was a large bowl of rice and the curry was aromatic and comforting. Patio 805 also serves meals in a bowl and hotpots.
We skipped dessert, but I couldn’t leave without having the Vietnamese coffee, served in a filter at the table, with condensed milk and ice and a good thing to round off a summer lunch.
