The second outlet of Sanchez has opened on 12th Main, Indiranagar’s restaurant street. Here it’s a taqueria, exuding a distinct taco cart vibe with bright colors and brick walls painted with motifs from Mexican folklore. There’s a busy bar, its facade adorned with tiles, and also an outdoor area.

This version of Sanchez has been created primarily as a taqueria and you’ll find on the menu tacos and all the variations of the tortilla theme — from Garnacha to Quesadilla, Enchiladas, Fajitas and Tex Mex-style Wet Burritos. Every dish is served on carefully chosen platters, garnished in a style that seems made for Instagram.

I began as I always do at Sanchez with the Guacamole, made table-side. The avocado was creamy, the condiments just right and the pile of corn chips utterly more-ish.

The taqueria counter serves up both crisp and soft tacos, some made with blue corn, others with yellow, some colored with beet and others flavored with spinach. It’s a hard-to pick-just-one array of colors, textures and fillings. One of my favorites was the Baja Style Beer Battered Fish in Soft Flour Taco — the fish was fresh and flavorful, every mouthful enlivened by chipotle mayo. If you prefer a hard taco, then the Guajillo Pork Chunks in Hard Yellow Corn Tacos should hit the spot.

A new inclusion on this menu is the Avocado Toast. Chef Vikas Seth, who, with his unbounded energy, skillfully combines authenticity and innovation on every menu, has introduced a range of avocado toast inspired creations which should especially appeal to vegetarians. I had a delicious one topped with smashed beets and cheese.

For a change from the tacos, order the Grilled Tenderloin, served Mexican style, with salad, corn on the cob, re fried beans, chipotle jus and enchilada. We ordered one of these at our table and the sumptuous platter was pronounced spectacularly good. Even if you have eaten your fill, desserts are not to be missed at Sanchez. There’s the Dark Chocolate Guacamole, a rich and luscious thing for chocolate lovers, and Churros which ooze cream, chocolate, caramel and cajeta. But my absolute favorite is the Tres Leches, which no one does better in these parts.

With your tacos, order the Mexican accented cocktails from the bar.

The wait staff is brisk and efficient even when the restaurant is full and buzzing.

Sanchez is the place for the most authentic Mexican food and drink experience in town. Most dishes are superb, the Quesadilla, however, left me unimpressed.
