Sendhoor Coffee, Indiranagar, Bangalore: Decor

This Indiranagar outlet opens on to the street. It’s clean as far as eateries of this type go. Sendhoor is an eat-and-scoot place, so don’t expect to linger. In fact, at peak times, there’ll be customers waiting to grab the seat you vacate.

Sendhoor Coffee, Indiranagar, Bangalore: Food

We went here for an early breakfast on a Sunday morning and the place was packed. We were lucky to get a table. Service is brisk. Banana leaves are slapped on, water is set out and the sambar comes in a stainless steel bucket as do the chutneys — coconut, tomato and mint.

We began with an Idli-Vadai. The idli was still steaming hot, soft and light. The vadai was fresh and crisp, just perfect. The Tamil Nadu-style sambar, thick with tur dal and lots of vegetables, including small onions, and the excellent coconut chutney made everything better.

We shared a Podi Dosai. Crisp and scattered with ‘gunpowder’, it was all that a good dosa should be. Next up, we had a Puri each, again fresh off the karhai, completely non-greasy, served with a mildly spiced potato masala.

I’d heard raves about the Pongal here and took away some. Studded with peppercorns and cashew, and enriched with ghee, it lived up to its reputation.

We had filter coffee to wrap up this delightful South Indian breakfast. I was convinced it’s a great way to start a weekend morning.

Sendhoor also serves lunch and dishes such as vegetarian Kotthu Paratha and Paniyaram in the evenings.

Service:

We enjoyed excellent service in a packed restaurant. The waiter even thoughtfully cut our dosa into three to share.

Plus & Minus:

Fresh, satisfying and affordable — that’s the food at Sendhoor and it’s certainly become one of my favorite places for tiffin.

It’s crowded, especially on weekends and you have the feeling of being rushed.
