The Tipsy Duckling, Kothrud, Pune: Decor

The decor and ambience of the place has a great vibe. Both the seating areas have comfortable seating and the décor is contemporary. The outdoor area is covered by foldable gazebos, which we hope would be replaced by something more permanent. The indoor area features an eight tap wall suspended set-up for their crafted beers.

The Tipsy Duckling, Kothrud, Pune: Food

The menu is well-curated and there are a lot of interesting things to choose from. There are quirky anecdotes explaining dishes which add a nice touch. Though vegetarians have a lot of options, this place is a treat for non-vegetarians.

We started with the Chicken Chettinad Sliders. The Chettinad flavor was spot-on and the sliders were the perfect size. There is an Innovation & Chat section which is aptly explained as ‘drunk experiments that you’ll never regret’. We tried the Mutton Kheema Pani Puri served with Pandhra Rassa. Yes, you heard it right! Crispy puris are served with mutton kheema, spicy peas and potatoes and of course the pandhra rassa. Being momo-lovers, we tried the whole range of Pot Stickers or Pan-seared Dumplings and we recommend the Prawns & Chives and Corn & Spinach. The steamed dumplings were cooked well, seared lightly and served with a sweet chili soy sauce. The pizza choice was obvious – the Butter Chicken Loader Pizza. The pizza crust was thin and crisp, generously topped with cheese and butter chicken pieces.

They have an Indian Roots section which features curry combos from across the country. We decided to go the Kerala way – Chicken Ghee Roast with Lachha and the Kerala Stew with Lemon Rice. The consistency of the ghee roast was thin, but flavors and spice levels were perfect. Do ask the meaning of the Marathi description under the chicken ghee roast. The Kerala vegetable stew was creamy and full of coconut milk and was served with tangy, soft lemon rice.

On the recommendation of the server, we tried the Prawns Khow Suey, which is a Burmese coconut curry served with crispy garlic noodles. Though tasty and flavorful, the khow suey was a departure from the original recipe and was overpowered by bell peppers. They had topped the curry with the accompaniments, which we would have preferred on the side. For pork-lovers, there are many things on the menu and we tried the Smoked BBQ Pulled Pork Burger. The soft, toasted buns were filled generously with the pulled pork, which was cooked and smoked to perfection. Some onions or coleslaw would have elevated the taste of the pork.

We ended the meal with their signature Mississippi Mud Cake. The cake was perfectly dens e, moist and chocolaty and we ended up ordering for another portion.
