The Hyatt Pune, like other five star hotels, has actively started deliveries for two of their restaurants – Eighty Eight and Baan Tao. This week, I decided to order their pan-Asian fare from Baan Tao. The menu is limited and includes a selection of sushi, dim sums, mains, noodles and rice dishes. The delivery menu is available on their social media handles and you have an option of ordering through apps or directly with the hotel.

Deliveries are free within a 5 km radius of the hotel.

The food was delivered on time and packed neatly in a mix of containers. The mains and soups were packed in food grade paper containers, the dim sums and sushi in foil containers and the rice in a paper box. The sushi was packed along with the pickled ginger and wasabi in the same container, which could have been packed separately. The foil containers could’ve been avoided. A flat reusable plastic container with a sturdier lid would have kept the sushi rolls fresher.

Baan Tao: Hyatt Pune, Kalyani Nagar, Pune – Food

With an artificial waterfall continuously gushing and a floating section for dining, Baan Tao is one of the most romantic restaurants in the city with food to match. But as the lockdown is the order of the day, we have to settle for their delicious food in the comfort of our homes. The Baan Tao menu forms a part of a larger delivery menu which has been curated specially for deliveries. Even though the choices are limited, they have included all their signature dishes. The veg tom yum soup is what we started with. The soup was tangy and slightly spicy with lots of veggies and mushrooms. The exotic vegetable dim sums with spring onion crystal and the basil chicken dim sums with beetroot crystal were beautifully crafted, perfectly translucent and delicious. From the sushi menu, we ordered the prawn tempura roll and the vegetarian rainbow sushi roll (asparagus, beetroot, carrot, lettuce). The use of the soft and sticky akitakomachi rice was a great touch. But the sushi had lost its crunch and freshness with the distance traveller. The sushi rolls were packed in foil containers which was a wrong choice. A sturdier container and an ice pack (which is common when delivering sushi) to maintain the temperature would have ensured the freshness of the sushi. Among appetizers, we tried the in-trend konjee naro lotus stem. The lotus stems were extra crunchy and tossed in a sweet sriracha sauce with garlic and scallions. After an appetizer-heavy meal, we kept the mains simple – the subtle and flavorful vegetables in chilli oyster sauce and the simple and ever-dependable chicken in chilli garlic sauce. Both the main curries paired well with a portion of steam rice.

Plus & Minus:

For deliveries, Hyatt Pune has reduced the rates to reach out to a wider audience. Kudos to the team for doing this, particularly when people are always in search of VFM options paired with good quality food.
