Go to a restaurant and take a look at their menu. Every dish is fancier than the last. Now, go to the Call Chotu website and look at their menu. It is full of dal chawal, paneer pakoda, bread pakoda, masala momos, pav and pakoda combo and everyday food. It is then that you realize just how far the concept of home delivery has travelled, since the pandemic started. Call Chotu is all about comfort food; the kind you would get on the streets of our city, when you could send an office boy to fetch two samosas in the middle of a working day. Or when you felt like eating well-made rajma chawal while working from home. They have tied up with delivery brands to deliver their food, the better to keep costs low, whence the benefits can be passed on to the customer. The pandemic has isolated us all in our home-offices with no time to cook. That’s where this brand helps. There is no ‘mini-mum’ order: they will deliver an order of Rs. 100.

Call Chotu, Greater Kailash 1, New Delhi: Food

Pav+ pakoda combo (Rs. 180) is enough for two. The pakodas, especially if you live within 6-7 kms from their kitchen in Noida, are delivered warm and crisp. Crisp chicken burger (Rs. 70) consisted of a generous piece of chicken, beaten, dredged with seasoned flour and fried till crunchy, then placed in a bun that is as soft as cotton wool. Apparently, buns are baked twice a day, every single day. There is mayo and very thin slices of onions with the chicken and as the bun is not in the least sweet, it is reminiscent of burgers of the ’70s in Delhi’s cafes. The vada pao (Rs. 75) is an approximation of its country cousin in Mumbai, but, as in the case of recipes that require very few ingredients, it is a come-down from the best stalls in Mumbai, lacking as it does, the strong punch of garlic-chilli chutney. Expectedly, butter chicken (Rs. 300) hit the spot, being a home-style version of Delhi’s perennial favourite. Raste ka aloo wala bread pakoda (Rs. 165) gives you soft fat slices of fresh bread with mashed, spiced potatoes, dipped in besan batter and fried.
