Citrus Junction: The Leela, Sector 16, Gandhinagar: Decor

A gallery leads from the lobby to the restaurant where the entrance has artwork that connects to the restaurant’s railway theme. The interiors of the restaurant contains railway memorabilia, including brass grills of the kind you would have seen at old railway ticketing counters, overhanging wires that remind you of railway carriages, exposed ceilings like those of some railway stations, and teakwood doors. The private dining room is designed like a deluxe rail car, with historical steam train photographs, and tapestries and railway theme props to match.

Citrus Junction: The Leela, Sector 16, Gandhinagar: Food

I have enjoyed the sumptuous buffet at this restaurant, but this time we decided to opt for a la carte. We started with the Tom Yum Soup, which came with tableside service. The bowl contained prawns over which the waiter poured the broth in front of us. The soup is a complex mix of flavours ranging from pepperiness and sting of chili to the mildness of coconut, with the kafir lime and galangal lending it the crisp and sharp flavour profile typical of Thai cuisine.

The Fire Cracker Prawns has peeled-out prawns coated with batter. When you bite into the batter you can hear the crunchy sound that gives this starter the name. Gondhoraj Mahi Tikka has fish cooked in lemon. The Canadian Scallops were perfectly browned and came apart easily with my fork while having a little bounciness. For vegetarians, the Crispy Thai Lotus Root, Smoked Chilli Tofu, and the Pickled Apricot, Pumpkin seed, Provolone Cheese appetizer are excellent.

For the mains,I had the Grilled Lamb Rack – I asked for it medium-rare. It was firm yet tender and juicy. The chef recommended the NH 203 Mutton Currry (NH 203 connects Puri and Bhubaneshwar), which I was told was based on the dish you get at wayside eateries on this highway. The mutton was fork-tender and the gravy delicious. The Dal Tadka and Kali Dal are also excellent. The Porcini Risotto Flower Pot was perfectly done. For dessert,I ordered the Classic Brulee the sugar glaze was golden brown and crispy, and I cracked it with the spoon to scoop up the silkys mooth custard. Hey! “Pick Me Up” is literally the tiramisu, which was excellent. Ivoire Chocolate Bread and Butter Pudding is their take on the traditional pudding.
