Mustard Restro Bar Nungambakkam, Chennai: Decor

Mustard Restro Bar Nungambakkam is both outdoors and indoors. Located next to the swimming pool, it has soothing greenery around. Inside, the resto-bar is quite ornate, many carefully chosen framed wall hangings, plants, and carved wooden furniture. The bar part of it is next to the entrance, an element that nobody can miss.

Food:

The warm home-baked bread basket comes along with three different mustard dips: normal, chilli and pesto. The breads are fresh and the dips have a slight bite because it’s mustard and there’s a little vinegar added.

Covered in a puff pastry shell, the Mushroom Soup remains piping hot. Once the pastry dome is cut open, gently and firmly steam escapes, warning you of covered hot temperatures. Inside, the soup is thick, grainy and has a touch of white wine. That puff pastry adds a crusty flaky bite on the side.

Four varieties of tomatoes go into this Tomato Tartare. It also had red wine vinegar and olive oil. Black and white pepper spice it up, while the chilled quinoa brings in the protein element along with many other elements. The actual star that brings it all together is the avocado. Succulent with a hint of sweetness, the Honey Mustard Sauteed Chicken brings along the famous mustard flavours.

The Stuffed Spinach Balls are soft, in a reddish brownish gravy. Stuffed with paneer, it has surprise elements like coconut and cashew put together skilfully and can be eaten with roti. Light, sweet and steamed, the Bhapa Doi is a smooth blend of creamy, tangy sweetness with a sprinkle of almond slivers on top. Pluses and minuses: The place has an interesting ambience. A blend of two different food cultures, the element that brings the two together is the use of mustard.
