On the ground floor of WorldMark is this pie shop cum cafe with more than a whiff of Paris. The kitchen is as large as the seating area because every pie on the menu is baked from scratch after the order comes in. You get an absolutely fresh pie even if you order ten of them in quick succession! The result is that the petite shop is never empty. You like what’s on the menu? You order it. And that’s exactly what you’ll be served. Fortunately, in the two hours that we sat there, nobody seemed to miss chilli sauce or local tadka. Long may it continue that way. Be aware that it is a popular venue for meal and snack time, and they do not reserve tables.

Petite Pie Shop, Golf Course Extension, Gurgaon: Food

Besides the breads (made in-house, naturally), everything on the menu here is either a sweet or a savory pie.

All of them are ready to be filled and baked once the order is received, and the crusts include short crust – both sweet and savory – as well as puff pastry (chicken patties use puff pastry), the rich cream cheese dough and biga dough for pizzas. A caveat: pastry shops usually have shelves groaning with baked goods. Not here though: all the labour is inside the kitchen. What comes to your table has been taken out of the oven that instant. I don’t know when I have had a croissant (₹120) that has been better value than at this little pie shop. I was lucky to have had one fresh and warm from the oven. It was a full house being Sunday, and a minute later, the entire tray of croissants had vanished! My wild mushroom pie (₹375) had a supremely crisp crust while the zero-mile mushrooms were meaty and savory. Even better was the chicken pot pie (₹350) served in a ramekin dish and topped with flaky pastry. The kitchen team has obviously cracked the secret of split-second timing in the oven: a minute less or more would have affected the succulent chicken as well as the pastry.

Plus & Minus:

Because this is one of the growing number of eateries in the NCR that is chef owned and run, zero concessions are made for the local palate. But the cold coffee is more milk and less coffee.
