As restaurants begin gradually to open up, customers have a choice between dining out and ordering in. Some restaurants are asking that only people who are fully vaccinated come to dine. And that is how it should be. So, here’s hoping you will all exercise caution when you choose to eat out, for the safety of everyone concerned.

I’ve been relying on home delivery for several weeks now, ordering direct from the restaurants at every instance that it’s possible to do so. This week’s recommendation is for one my favourite places for seafood in the city. Sea Rock is an established landmark at Anand Rao Circle. While the delivery menu is multi-cuisine, with Chinese and Mughlai also on offer, it’s the Mangalorean that is the specialty here. And among these, the fish and seafood dishes are the hot-sellers.

Sea Rock, Seshadripuram, Bangalore: Food

Sea Rock serves some of the best kane or ladyfish you can get in town. The Masala Fry or the ‘Naked’ Fry are the best ways to eat this fish. I find the Rawa Fry takes away from the main ingredient. Prices vary according to size, so do check with the restaurant. The Prawn Masala Fry (₹540) is also a celebration of fresh seafood and the strong punch of spice. The mostly underrated Silver Fish is also very good here. This particular fish I like Rawa Fried (₹280). A plate of it and a mug of beer can be a very enjoyable experience.

If you are up to getting your fingers all messy and the effort of cracking open crab shells, then the Crab Ghee Roast is the thing to order. The seafood is of good quality and the ghee roast masala is well-balanced with the heat of chilli, a silken texture and the richness of ghee.

After this, it’s time to indulge in the goodness of simple curries and rice or traditional breads from the coastal belt. I prefer small fish to the over-fished species such as seer. The Bangude Curry (₹220) has large mackerel in a spicy-tart gravy. It’s excellent both with boiled rice or neer dosa. For another tasty combination try the Mangalore Prawn Curry (₹540) with pundi, the fluffy rice dumplings soaking up the gravy. Add on a serving of Marwai Sukka (₹260). The clams in their coconut masala can really perk things up. They also do a delicious Kori Rotti (₹380) at Sea Rock and it’s just right for when you want a satisfying meal-in-one.

If you are in the mood for an earthy meal with robust flavors and lots of seafood, Sea Rock should be among your top choices.
