One of the best things about Pune is the incredible weather, coupled with the surrounding hills. No wonder there are so many rooftop and alfresco restaurants here, SKYE on Senapati Bapat Road being one of the best.

SKYE: Rooftop by Eternia – Senapati Bapat Road, Pune: Decor

Skye boasts an unblemished, panoramic view of the lush surroundings of the city. The seating is a varied mix of high chairs around the periphery, sofas in one section and comfortable wooden chairs in another. The hanging lamps, plants, dream catchers and macrame hangings add to the ambience.

The section with the sofas needs some sprucing up, but the stunning view and the continuous breeze make Skye a go-to for a range of scenarios to catch-up with friends, a corporate event, a casual night out or even a date.

SKYE: Rooftop by Eternia – Senapati Bapat Road, Pune: Food

The food menu is simple, with north Indian, continental and pan-Asian options. We started with the scrumptious Eternia kumbh (button mushrooms stuffed with spinach and cheese and grilled in a tandoor) and the delicious bhatti ke aloo (baby potatoes with black pepper and sesame grilled in a tandoor). The stuffed mushrooms were quite enjoyable. The gosht seekh kebabs were fairly underwhelming. The kebab mince was fine, but the chilli powder and spices overpowered the taste.

What impressed us were the seemingly simple fish fingers. The fish fingers thankfully were breaded and fried using fresh fish and were excellent. The accompanying dip should have been a classic tartare sauce, but the chipotle mayo did the job. We tried dynamite prawns sliders, among the chef’s specials, and were slightly disappointed. The taste was fine, but instead of individual sliders, we were served a large burger cut into three pieces. The menu description mentioned tempura prawns which were replaced by prawns cooked in a spicy sauce.

For mains, we decided to take the desi route. The mutton rogan josh was recommended and it was great. The meat was cooked well and the curry was intensely spicy and very flavourful. Couldn’t miss the murgh makhani which was very enjoyable. We also got the paneer tikka version of the makhani which was as good as the murgh version. Butter garlic naans and lachcha parathas kept us company while on the mains. We ended with the gajar halwa and the crowd-pleasing sizzling brownie with ice cream.

Plus & Minus:

The panoramic view and the rooftop ambience have contributed greatly to the popularity of Skye. The food menu is simple and uncomplicated and the food is very enjoyable. The service is slightly slow and the wait time on most of our dishes was quite high. The staff was courteous but lacked attentiveness, an aspect which definitely needs to improve.
