I like their no-fuss limited menu, neat square stainless-steel plates and black and white dominated decor. In the past, I’ve always ordered the Keerai Vadai to begin with, different dosas in the middle, always ending with Sakkarai Pongal and topping it all with hot, frothy filter coffee. Earlier, ID launched ready-to-cook batters, pooris, channa masala and chutneys. But this time, I asked for The Soul Box AYUSH meals. Their Soul Box AYUSH meals are different every day and are created by their in-house nutritionist for the sole purpose of providing nutritious daily meals, including breakfast, lunch and dinner. Each meal — breakfast, lunch, and dinner — is cooked fresh and delivered to your doorstep. You could opt for a daily package at ₹450 plus delivery for all three meals or take up their weekly package.

I opted for the daily package on Day 5 and woke up to Mini Podi Idli, Melagu Pongal, Sambar and Kara Chutney. All of it came in a compartmentalized microwavable container.

The Podi Idli was soft; each idli was evenly coated with Podi. Just a hint of ghee came along with the ubiquitous curry leaves crunched up. The Pongal included whole peppers, peeps of cashew and jeera in its well-cooked midst. To spice it up, I added some of the orange-colored Kara Chutney.

Light and easy to digest, the Sambar carried through its promise of ID flavors, with sambar vengayam adding their bit.

Lunch was millets in different forms, Sundal (plant-based protein), veggies for vitamins, chapattis, a few fryums and carrotbeetroot juice. Aloo Masala, with a little coconut and well cooked aloos, were good with the pliant chapattis.

I enjoyed the Millet Sambar Rice by itself and with the grilled green beans. Bites of fryums added crackle. The millets were well cooked and mixed well into the sambar. Dinner time brought me Mini Idli Sambar, Chapatti, Channa Masala and Fruit Salad. That sambar, I could eat with anything… or even by itself. The thick-gravied Channa Masala was mildly spiced and cooked to perfection.

Plus & Minus:

Gentle, kind, homely and caring. This food was tasty without being overpowering.
