Aja – Honestly Good Food: About

A brand that has come close to being synonymous with their tagline–honestly good food–Aja has steadily turned the ‘healthy is boring’ belief on its head. They promised a fresh, flavourful, and nutritious experience when they arrived on Chandigarh’s food scene a decade ago in 2013, and have more or less delivered on that assurance. They specialize in healthy versions of street foods from around the world, several familiar comfort foods, offer vegan choices, and dish out a host of beverages that are meant to rejuvenate and invigorate the body.

Food:

The menu here is a lip smacking list of soups, salads, grills, wraps, burgers, pizzas, pastas, sandwiches, and meal bowls. Asian flavours include dimsums and hotstone pots, while tacos and quesadillas offer a Mexican touch. An all-day Brunch menu entices with FluffyPancakes and French toast, including hearty breakfast options like the Moroccan Shakshuka and Parsi Baba Akuri on Toast, both of which are a tad spicy. I was here for dinner recently and our order that evening included Veg Aja Aglio Olio, Veg Super Khichadi, Chicken Ravioli, and Veg Bangkok Noodles, all washed down with a round of Chilean Merlot.

Plus and Minus:

The food at Aja generally takes its time arriving as its prepared and plated fresh, good thing they’re generous with the roasted and seasoned makhanas (served gratis) to munch on while you wait. Portion sizes were more than adequate and were pleasingly presented. Our entire order was well-made, with quality ingredients, and full of freshness and flavours. The spaghetti in the aglio olio was whole wheat, the tomatoes sundried, while crispy caramelized onions and breadcrumbs added taste and texture. The Chicken Ravioli was outstanding, and to my mind, the star of the meal. The Super Grain Masala Khicadi, a mix of millets, wild rice quinoa and lentils, was also very tasty. The flat Bangkok noodles however lacked the promised piquancy and ended up tasting bland.
